Buzzworthy: New Android Phones at CES

Google's new Android operating system has created a flurry in new cell phone development. We give you an inside look at three of the hottest new Android phones at CES this year: Google's Nexus One, Motorola's Droid, and Motorola's Backflip.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X3: All About Power and Performance

The third instalment in Sony Ericsson’s Xperia series may yet turn out to be the best.  The Xperia X3, previously referred to as “Rachael,” packs first-class features designed for enhanced power and performance.  To begin with, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 is equipped with Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor so that functionality over this device is akin to computing standards.  Power consumption is also efficient so extended battery life means you can make the most out of the features of the phone.

3G capability is fully backed on the X3 what with HSDPA and HSUPA support.  Additional connectivity choices are WiFi, Bluetooth and miniUSB.  The phone operates under the Android platform which should enhance not only Internet-based activities but other tasks on the phone as well.  The user interface of the X3 is admirable as this allows you to effortlessly navigate in and around applications.  For example, launching playlists is as easy as a slide of a finger.  The phone then displays the list in a vertical arc and albums are photo-assigned so it is easy for you to look for what you need.

This Xperia model is equipped with an 8 megapixel camera and whilst there are other camera phones out there that feature higher resolutions, this snapper is more than able to hold its own as it comes with advanced elements that make for exceptional image quality.  It has up to eight times digital zoom, an autofocus function and capture enhancing technologies such as smile shutter, face detection and image stabilizer.  The camera also comes with an LED flash.

Recording of videos should also yield great results as you can record clips at 30 frames per second.  The quality of the clips is of VGA standards so clarity and vividness are guaranteed.

The features mentioned above are the primary draws of this device but it is also filled with standard but indispensable features.  A music and video player is built in which are compatible with MPEG4 (for video), MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA and Wav formats.  An FM radio is also incorporated into the phone.  There is a 3.5mm jack so you can listen to songs via headphones.

There are PIM tools such as a calendar, calculator, world clock, to-do list, notes and alarm.  Messaging functions include e-mail, SMS, photo and video MMS.  Call features are also quite comprehensive as the Xperia X3 is a quad-band phone and the device offers elements such as voice dialling and hands free calling.  There is also a GPS receiver available on this mobile.
