www.netbooknews.com Rumors of at 7 inch iPad have been floating around for nearly as long as the iPad has been around. Steve Job him self has stepped in an dismissed the idea he suggested that they’ll work fine if they come with sandpaper to file your fingers down to the size needed to make a 7″ tablet usable. Who would have thought that a Q4 earnings call today would be blessed by CEO Steve Jobs. Just prior to the Q&A portion of the call, Jobs went into a 5-minute rant about the state of both the smartphone and tablet markets. Notably, he went directly after Google and their “open system” and he laughed off the idea that the iPad will have any real competition. Amazing stuff. Open versus closed, the idea of “open”, fragmentation, tablet price points and more. If you wondered what Steve Jobs thinks, this is the phone call to listen to, he’s definitely not holding back. In the Q&A he was asked about the GalaxyTab it got even better which he derided as “tweeners”. He harps on their limited app selection, and the conclusion was that these tablets will be “DOA.” We’ll see, the 7 inch form factor is the perfect blend of screen size and portability. The lack of Apps will be taken care of once Gingerbread is released and Google’s Marketplace This five minute monologue is below, if you listen closely you’ll be able to hear the slowly declining sales. Next year is when things are going to get interesting, the 2nd generation iPad will come to market right when everyone else is …

is this the unlocked version from Europe?
@fatriff well from the beginning I was talking about power & ease of use. Answer me this, if HTC are so great and thought of all the ideas (which they didn’t, Nokia & Ericsson were first for all of what you mentioned) how comes Apple can just decide to make a phone one day and smash every single competitor out of the water? Because their GUI, Firmware and concept was way above the level of any smartphone on the market. It’s taken HTC 10 years to catch up. So tell me who the real winner is?
I’m not so sure these debate points were very strong.
I’ll stick to my non-smartphone.
Think about this…android has a lot of source from samsung, upto motorola..but iOS…apple iDevices are alone itselft..yet it cannot be defeated by those other shitty smartphone that is powered by android…it’s like 1 vs 100
still no one can beat apple
lol, Steve you mad bro?
What ideas are you talking about? Camera in a phone? Nope, HTC were there since 2001, Video camera in a phone, Mp3 player in a phone, Playing videos? Web browser? Already in HTCs phones for the past 10 years, Wifi? Already there too, using your phone as a modem? Yes, again, HTC for the past 10 years, Touchscreen? Yep, HTC have been doing that for 10 years now as well. Folding camshells, slide out keyboards etc, all HTC.. What ideas are you talking about? Ofcourse Nokia are up there too.
@DJSyKoh You are a dumbass, why don’t you take a look back at HTCs back catalog? I have been using HTC Smartphones since 2001.. Yes that’s right, 2002, even then they had mp3 and video cameras and wifi and touchscreens. HTC are the leaders in mobile innovation, just look at the Sensation XL with its 4.7 inch screen and the most incredible audio ever on any mobile, that is a mobile to drool over and at £499 sim free, so it should be!
ANDROID IS THE BEST!! 48% MARKET SHARE AND RISING!!, just wait for the galaxy nexus,HTC edge, motorola RAZR
Did anyone else see the futurist car at the end? lol
@jnierstheimer if you dropped your phone 20 times you have an unbreakable phone but lousy hands!!!!
@Nintariz Not to mention that if you drop an Iphone the glass breaks. I’ve dropped my Droid X twenty times and never had a problem. IOS 4 and 5 copied every feature that Android has had for years. The innovation is not there.
Developers spend countless times creating apps for apple that we may not even review or allow on our appstore. Picture this with Android, where everything is open. Developer’s with an android market account can up step in with their app and add it to android market.
HTC, Samsung and Motorola uses Closed source UIs. With android, users can choose between different launchers such as “ginerbread” launchers where every handset (2.1 upwards) can experience Android Open source project ,
@Nintariz Profit second, really? How come everything Apple sells is more then an alternative.with the same features. Iphone is not that good. Iphone 4 had antenna problems, and Iphone 4S has battery problems. The worse part about this is Iphone in both cases took forever to respond. With the Antenna problems Steve said everyphone has this problem. Basically my bad get the fuck over it. The worst part is the solution he offered. Will give you a colored rubber band for your phone.
“many android OEM including the largest HTC and Motorola install proprietary user interfaces to differentiate themselves to the commodity that Android experience. The users are left to figure it all out”
So what’s wrong with that. the more you figure out the more you learn and the more you able to see that you are not just investing products based on brand names and what most people uses.
Fool me once fool me twice now I have a droid and it actually works unlike my previous 2 iphones.
@divinity176 Not that those devices run Flash well anyways.
open source ya cunt jeesh
I agree – Flash is crap. But It is also used on a huge percentage of websites.
I also agree that HTML5 is the future… so in the future I can use a device that supports this but not Flash.
As for today, I will stick to devices that can deliver today’s web content.
@salmankhalid85 Too bad you didn’t type your comment on an idevice — your spelling would’ve been corrected!
@oscarstegland Yea I love my Samsung phones. All three phones in my house are Samsung android phones. And can’t wait to get my hands on that T-mobile 1.5ghz dual core Galaxy S 2. It’s faster than the Ipad2.
P.S. Since the Iphone is king of the apps I would like to see someone load a fully working copy of Linux into the iphone and run something like Aricrack-ng. impossible on the Iphone but the ancient G1 can do it…. Yea that’s right, you can even hack WIFI routers with an android.
Apple doesn’t have balls to open its source. The beauty of open source is that it provides customization at every level. Unlike to Apple dickheads that came up with the same design after spending one year between 4 and 4s. and still have bugs with battery discharging in 2 hours.
I am buying a 7 incher and it makes sense to me. Robert Lichota, an investoer of 20 years Robert Lihcota (Robert L, R Lichota)
@oscarstegland LOL, theres a simple easy answer to that…HTC and Samsung Suck Donkey balls!!! They make promises that they’re the same as iPhone but cheaper, then people get them and realise they’ve got more of a “punch the shit out of the screen to make it work” then a “touch screen” Samsung phones are probably the most frustrating pieces of shit ive ever used and lets be honest 90% of the ideas they used came from Apple anyway
Android is a cheap imitation. Sure, it’s flattering, but you can’t confuse the real deal with something that’s basically doing it’s best to imitate something else. The reason why Apple’s products are so good is because the people who make them are obsessed with making something great first and profit second. You think google gives a fuck? They’re another Microsoft, profit first company. That’s why iphone, ipad, macbook, imac and mac pro are held so high. There’s apple, then everything else.
@2erict Flash is crap. Learn to evolve. HTML5 is the future.
lookes like he never got well, he was only jealous of microsoft
