Sony to Start Music Streaming Service with Major Record Labels

Sony Corp. (SNE) is poised to start its own music streaming service with major record labels in the US this quarter. Its shares are up 1.34% to .68 last check. The move will challenge Apple Inc.’s (APPL) iTunes, according to reports. The company began its service dubbed “Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity” in Sept. in the UK and Ireland in Dec. It will be available in other European countries this weekend. Music Unlimited has more than 6 million songs available on Playstation 3 game console, Blu-ray Disc player, Bravia televisions, PCs and on smartphones using Google Inc’s Android operating systems.

DROID Smartphone Controls Times Square w Google Android Verizon Wireless created a first-of-its-kind interactive experience in New York City called, DROID Does Times Square letting callers control two of Times Squares largest digital billboards the NASDAQ and Reuters signs using only voice commands. The digital billboards instructed passersby to call a toll-free number (1-888-376-4336) to search locations in the Times Square area. Participants can search for practically anything (eg their favorite cuisines, plays, movies, stores), and the search results will be displayed on the digital billboards using Google Maps. This activity will take daily from 12:30 pm to 2:10 pm and from 6:30 pm to 8:10 pm through Nov. 20, and from 6:00 am on Nov. 27 through 2:00 am on Nov. 28. Internet fans worldwide can view the experience in real-time by visiting www.droiddoes.com/timessquare.

News Update: Motorola delays Android update for Milestone users

Phone maker Motorola has said that Europeans with the popular Milestone handsets will have to wait a little longer for the Android 2.2. The US version known as the Droid, had already received an update to Android 2.2, but the European version–identical but for a GSM radio–is still waiting for the update. Motorola has not given a reason for the delay. Those with Backflip and Dext phones will also not be getting updates for the Android 2.1. It is unclear whether these customers will get a straight upgrade to Android 2.2.
