We first saw the Thrive at CEA Line Show 2011 in New York City during CE Week. The tablet is aiming for more substances than looks versus the competition. When you first pick it up you it gives a rugged and solid feel. Not much in terms of accessories just a mini USB cable and the charger with is a laptop style charger. The Thrive has a 10.1 inch screen with a 2 megapixel front facing camera on top for video chat. On the side there is a light sensor and 3 LED indicators one for power, one for charging and one for Wi-Fi. On the sides you have power, volume, screen rotation lock, full SD card slot, stereo speakers, DC power port, 3.5 mm headphone jack, HDMI out, mini USB, Full USB, battery door lock and proprietary dock connection. On the back is a 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture. One unique feature of the Thrive is the changeable back plate and removable battery which is a first for android honeycomb tablet. The device boots up fast and is stock Android 3.1 with some custom software installed the most interesting of that is the included file manager. I’m looking forward to putting this tablet to work to see if it really stands up as a contender. The pre-install file manager is key and they also have a cool media player application as well.
